The Emira replaced the Elise, Exige and Evora in one move. It uses a development of the bonded aluminium chassis, with a far better finished cabin than any previous Lotus, and it has been described by the company as its last new petrol-engined car.
Two engines are offered: the familiar supercharged 3.5-litre Toyota V6 with a six-speed manual or automatic, and a 2.0-litre turbocharged four from Mercedes-AMG with a dual-clutch gearbox. Hydraulic power steering was retained deliberately, for feel.

On a road trip
Much the most refined car on this page, with luggage space behind the seats as well as in the boot. It is heavier and wider than an Elise, and it shows on the narrowest roads, but it is the easiest Lotus to live with on a long trip.
What to check
- Early-build software and infotainment issues; check updates have been applied.
- Specification varies widely; confirm suspension (Tour or Sport) and tyre choice.
